Aston Villa will consider paying off Joleon Lescott if he does not find a new club before the end of the summer transfer window, manager Roberto Di Matteo has suggested to The Birmingham Mail.
Lescott has been on the books of Villa since the summer of 2015 and has a contract with the Championship club until June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Di Matteo has suggested to The Birmingham Mail that Villa will consider paying off the remainder of the the defender’s contract if he does not secure a move away from the club this month.

It has been reported by The Birmingham Mail that Di Matteo has told the 34-year-old that he does not have a future at Villa Park.
“It’s something the club is dealing with,” the Italian is quoted as saying by The Birmingham Mail when asked about the possibility of paying off Lescott.

Lescott featured in 30 Premier League matches for Villa last season, but the Englishman failed to play well.
The former Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion defender has not made a single appearance for the Villans in the Championship so far this season.
The 34-year-old was set to move to Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers this month, but as manager Mark Warburton told Sky Sports, the defender decided against the switch due to family reasons.
