The midfielder is set to join Everton after they activated his release clause.

Roberto Di Matteo has told ITV Sport that there is no chance Idrissa Gueye would be leaving Aston Villa if it weren’t for the release clause in his contract.
The midfielder is expected to depart Aston Villa this week after Everton made a move for his services.
They have activated a £7.2 million release clause in his contract and he has been negotiating a move to Goodison Park since then.

The Villans are upset at losing their man after he put in a series of impressive performances despite their relegation from the Premier League.
And Di Matteo says there is no chance he would have let Gueye go if it hadn’t been for his release clause.
“It’s public Everton have triggered his clause and he’s going to leave,” he told ITV Sport.
“The fact he is leaving is basically down to the clause he has in his contract, otherwise there would be no chance. We’re not a club looking to sell, we don’t have to, we don’t need to.”

It remains to be seen if Gueye proves to be a smart signing for Everton next season.
He posted impressive stats last season, only coming second behind Leicester City’s star man N’Golo Kante in a number of areas.
They are impressive numbers to say the least and the Blues will be hoping he can replicate that kind of form in their midfield.
