Gianluca Di Marzio told German outlet Wett Freunde that Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are the only potential destinations for Lautaro Martinez this summer. However, the Inter ace would prefer a move to Atletico.
Martinez, 24, has a contract at Inter until 2026. However, the Argentina international and Copa America winner could be set to leave, and Di Marzio states that he would cost in the region of £59m at the end of the season.
Last season, Martinez sparkled for Inter under Antonio Conte and alongside Romelu Lukaku, he scored 19 goals and laid on 11 assists. His form took Inter to the next level, stopping Juventus and winning the Serie A title.
Italian journalist Di Marzio has given his take on Martinez’s future – naming Spurs or Atleti as his only options. He claims Fabio Paratici is a really big fan, but thinks if Martinez is to leave Inter – Atleti is the move he wants.
“They won’t sell Lautaro for less than €70m (£59m). Tottenham will go after Lautaro because they wanted him last summer. They want another forward to play with Kane or plan for the future without Kane,” Di Marzio said.
“Lautaro is one of the players that Fabio Paratici loves. Atlético Madrid or Tottenham could be the perfect destinations for him. He would like to go to Madrid. If he had to choose another club, it would be Atlético Madrid.”
Di Marzio on Lautaro: Tottenham have got to pull out all of the stops
Reports from Italy on Friday morning state that Antonio Conte is trying to push Paulo Dybala on a free to Inter from Juventus – in order to convince Inter into selling Martinez. The issue is convincing the player himself.
Clearly, Conte is trying to form a 3-5-2 system that worked so well at Inter – combining Martinez and Kane. Though such a system might see Son Heung-min drop out. Whatever happens, Spurs really need to sign Martinez.
