Leeds United’s reported quest to sign Erick Pulgar from Fiorentina looks likely to be tough.

As covered by HITC Sport, according to La Nazione, Leeds are interested in signing Pulgar from Fiorentina in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa has recommended the defensive midfielder to the club.

However, according to well-known and well-respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Fiorentina do not want to sell the 26-year-old defensive midfielder.

Di Marzio has reported on his website that Cagliari are interested in Pulgar, but Fiorentina have ‘no intention of selling the Chilean’.

Do Leeds United need Erick Pulgar?

Kalvin Phillips is the regular defensive midfielder for Leeds, but the Whites could do with an able back-up.

The England international midfielder has had injury and suspension issues this season, and it would be good for the Whites to have cover in that department as well as to increase competition.

The Chile international is a very experienced footballer who has done well in Serie A, and he would be a good addition to the Leeds team.
