The striker is looking for a new club after struggling to get into Philippe Montanier’s Nottingham Forest side this season.
Dexter Blackstock celebrates after scoring for Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest’s release of Dexter Blackstock on Thursday certainly caught out many in the football world, and the striker opened up to fans on the club website to bid farewell, while also receiving a message from the club’s star midfielder on Twitter.
This has been Blackstock’s ninth season at the club since first arriving on loan in 2008, and the 30-year-old has scored 45 times in 187 matches during that time.
Things haven’t always been easy for the former QPR man during his time at the City Ground. Blackstock took in a loan spell with Leeds a couple of years ago, but has more often the not been a regular first teamer for Forest.

However, this season he has been unable to make an appearance under new manager Philippe Montanier, and has decided, and convinced the club to, release him from his contract to find a new team to play for.
Speaking to supporters after the news, the forward had the following to say:
“I will take away some great memories from my time at Nottingham Forest,” he is quoted as saying on the Forest website.
“The fans have always been supportive of me and constantly turn out in great numbers to get behind the team and for this I would like to thank them.
“I have experienced every emotion possible during my time at Forest, as have all the supporters. From the time I suffered my long-term injury to the highs of reaching the play-offs, the fans have been with me and the team every step of the way.
“I would also like to thank Fawaz (Al Hasawi, Reds chairman) for everything he has done for me. He has great passion for this club and truly wants to bring success back to The City Ground.
“Nottingham Forest is a club with great tradition, great fans and I sincerely wish everyone at the club the best of luck in the future.”
His now former team-mate Henri Lansbury responded to the news on Twitter, with Blackstock hinting to the midfielder, and Forest fans, that he will always be close by.
