The Celtic man has been linked with Newcastle and Huddersfield Town, but Brendan Rodgers can’t sell up.

Between Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong and Moussa Dembele, quite a few Celtic players have been linked with moves away from the club this summer.

But one which might have gone under the radar a little in comparison is Jozo Simunovic who, according to The Daily Mail, is a target of Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town.

At £8 million, Celtic would be crazy to sell him for that figure regardless, but a recent development means that Brendan Rodgers simply can’t even entertain the idea of losing him.

Dedryck Boyata was ruled out for three months with a medial ligament injury on Friday and it leaves Rodgers a little short on centre-back options.

Aside from the 22-year-old Simunovic, Erik Sviatchenko is now the only fit and established centre-back in the squad in a fact which increases Simunovic’s importance.

Celtic are strongly expected to retain their Premiership crown, having won a domestic treble without losing a match last season, but it will be a lot harder without a figure like Simunovic in the heart of their back four yet again next term.
