England Under-21’s picked up a 3-1 win over Scotland on Friday night – and Tottenham midfielder Joshua Onomah stole the headlines with a stunning opening goal.
After the senior side laboured to a 1-0 home win over Slovenia on Thursday night, Friday saw the youngsters take to the field in a bid to give hope for the future of English football.
Many fans will be excited by what they saw from Aidy Boothroyd’s men, as England took the lead at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium when Joshua Onomah’s stunning dipping volley looped into the top corner of the net.

England made it 2-0 in the second half when Tammy Abraham was brought down by John Souttar for a penalty, with Abraham scoring from the spot himself, before Scotland’s Chris Cadden tapped home Oliver McBurnie’s pull-back for a goal back.
The Three Lions immediately re-claimed their two-goal advantage though, as Onomah’s defence-splitting pass sent Abraham through on goal, and he squared the ball for Dominic Solanke to add a third.
A number of players impressed for England, but it was midfielder Onomah who grabbed the headlines with his stunning opening goal, another example of how he is developing this season having been loaned out to Aston Villa.

The playmaker has shown real promise for Villa, and he took that to the international stage with the England Under-21’s, prompting praise from Spurs fans on Twitter during and after Friday’s game.
Supporters feel that Onomah is becoming a special player this season, urging Spurs not to sell him in 2018 and allow him to become a first-team player under Mauricio Pochettino next season.
Whilst most could see that Onomah is improving steadily, others felt that Onomah was hit and miss outside of his goal, meaning that he may still have a little developing to do – but there is no doubting that his goal was remarkable.
