Trent Alexander-Arnold has been speaking to ITV Sport about his struggles with England, despite consistently shining for Liverpool.
What’s the story?
Well, the international career of Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a strange one.
Despite starring for Liverpool as Jürgen Klopp’s men lift the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, the 23-year-old has never really been fancied by Gareth Southgate.
The likes of Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Kyle Walker have often been selected ahead of him, which in our view, is baffling.
Speaking to ITV Sport, Alexander-Arnold opened up on his difficulties with England, and shared how he felt after an injury ruled him out of EURO 2020.
When asked what he was feeling during that moment, the £180,000-a-week Liverpool man said: ‘Devastation. I missed out on, probably, the only home tournament I would’ve had a chance to play in.
“A lot was disappointment, feeling sorry for myself.”
You have to feel for Alexander-Arnold.

Surely, it’s only a matter of time until he becomes England’s No.1 right-back under Southgate.
Is England that much different from Liverpool for Trent Alexander-Arnold?
From our point of view, we can’t understand why Southgate has been so reluctant to use Alexander-Arnold for England.
After all, it’s not like he and Klopp use vastly different systems.

Just take a look at England’s goal against Italy in the EURO 2020 final, in which Kieran Trippier crosses for Luke Shaw to hammer home.
Clearly, Southgate likes his full-backs high up the pitch, which suits Alexander-Arnold perfectly.
After providing three assists against San Marino, the Liverpool Academy graduate will hopefully get a chance to make the shirt his own.
