Darren Moore says if Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool lose Mo Salah to Saudi Arabia side Al-Ittihad, then it will be a ‘devastating blow’ to the club.

Transfer deadline day has been one that Liverpool fans have probably watched from behind the sofa because there has been strong talk of Mo Salah moving to Saudi Arabia.

Leading up to deadline day, there was talk that Al-Ittihad would push to sign the right-sided winger and that then came in the form of a ‘£150 million’ transfer bid, but it was rejected by Liverpool, as reported by Sky Sports.

Since then, another bid hasn’t been submitted by the Saudi-based side, with fans still anxious regarding the future of their player, with former Sheffield Wednesday boss, Moore, adding that sometimes you have to think about the ‘astronomical amounts’ of money that is being offered for a 31-year-old, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/09/23 at 10:30 am).

Whilst the 2023 transfer window in England will slam shut by 11 pm on Friday, it will still be open for teams in Saudi until September 7.

Therefore, what do the Reds do if Al-Ittihad come in for a bigger offer because turning down £150 million is ridiculous enough?!

“You wouldn’t want to lose a player like that,” said Moore. “Mo is guaranteeing you 30 goals, in terms of goals and assists for Liverpool, so to lose that, at this stage, would be a devastating blow.

“You have to think about the Liverpool fanbase and the club, but also at the same time, it’s an astronomical amount of money for Liverpool, to be offered those sums, for somebody who is 31.”

No-one is bigger than the club

As Salah proved at St James’ Park, even when he isn’t scoring, he can produce absolute magic because that through ball for Darwin Nunez’s winning goal in stoppage time was out of this world.

There is no doubt that Salah is a Liverpool legend, one of their greatest ever players and someone who would get into their all-time XI.

But no-one is ever bigger than the club and, at the end of the day, the future of the club always has to be at the forefront.
