Gary Neville praised Arsenal transfer target, Alexis Mac Allister, for playing his part in Argentina ‘destroying’ France during their epic World Cup final win on Sunday in Qatar.

The Brighton midfielder has had the tournament of his life, after starting on the bench, he was brought into the fold for Argentina’s second game and he hasn’t looked back since.

Whilst the likes of Lionel Messi and Emi Martinez will steal the limelight for obvious reasons, someone like Mac Allister has been an underrated cog in that World Cup-winning wheel.

It was a huge blow to the South American giants when Giovani Lo Celso was injured prior to the World Cup, but Mac Allister has filled that void.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was impressed by what he was seeing from the now-sought-after midfielder, as he told ITV Sport.

“Mac Allister has been in that little pocket and they haven’t been able to come to terms with it,” said Nevile.

“What Mac Allister is going with di Maria is absolutely destroying them.”

ARSENAL JOIN TRANSFER RACE

A fair few Brighton players have made that step up before and Mac Allister might just be the next kid to head for the exit door at the Amex Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have joined their north London rivals Tottenham for his signature, the 23-year-old has a contract until 2025 at Brighton.

As proven with Ben White, Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella, if the price is right, then that player will leave, so it will be interesting to see how far teams push for Mac Allister now that he is a World Cup winner.
