Everton and Aston Villa fans on Twitter were wowed by Ollie Watkins performance at Goodison Park on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old helped Villa record a valuable 2-1 win against the Toffees after he opened the scoring when he pressurised Mason Holgate into a mistake, before he punished the ex-West Brom player by firing the ball into the bottom corner despite being off-balance.
In truth, just like another Merseyside outfit, Watkins should have scored a hat-trick, but Everton’s man in between the sticks ensured that wasn’t going to be the case.
If there ever was a definition of a complete centre-forward’s display then Watkins showcased that against an Everton team faltering in their quest to secure European football.
He bullied Everton’s backline and didn’t give them a moments rest and perhaps showed why he is one of the best pressing forwards in the league.
It’s not just Watkins, 25, willingness to run that is one of his biggest qualities, but the intelligence and efficiency behind it all.
And when he’s not forcing you into mistakes and running you all over the place, he has also proven that’s he’s capable of holding off the most robust of centre-halves and then finding his man with a pass.
Either way, it’s a performance that not only impressed his own Villa supporters but the Everton fans as well.
