Martin Keown has warned Arsenal on Football Focus that Liverpool will ‘destroy’ them if they sense ‘fear’ from their opponents ahead of Monday’s night game.

Mikel Arteta’s side travel to Anfield for the first of two clashes against the champions of England this week – the first a Premier League showdown before they lock horns days later in the League Cup.

Even though Jurgen Klopp’s men have been mowing down everyone that has come in their way in recent times, a certain club from North London has had the better of them in recent months by earning two wins – in the Premier League and the Community Shield.

But Keown, who would have had his fair share of battles on Merseyside, sent a warning to his former club ahead of today’s visit.

“The way that Liverpool play, I mean their manager is different class for saying nice things about Arteta,” Keown told Football Focus.

“But this is the ultimate challenge. When you play against Liverpool and you go to Anfield. You have got to love it. You have to love it and you cannot fear it because if you do then they’ll destroy you.

“They were great last week against Chelsea and the way that they played in midweek. You saw the guys who were not getting any games scoring lots of goals. The mood there is back to where it was before and Klopp will be delighted with that.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

This could be a very interesting showdown because Arsenal are riding high after a solid start to the season and the Reds beat Chelsea last time out.

Whilst Liverpool know that they will be challenging for the title this season, Arsenal fans are still trying to find out what their team can produce.

Arsenal supporters will be pretty happy with a top-four finish this term, but given how Chelsea are playing, City’s thumping defeat at the hands of Leicester, could Arteta’s men surprise a few at Anfield and showcase to the world that they are in a better position than most think?
