Destiny? Reportedly offered contract by Everton, Domagoj Vida was scouted by Allardyce

Everton are reportedly pursuing Dynamo Kiev defender Domagoj Vida.

Everton confirmed the arrival of Sam Allardyce as the club’s new manager on Thursday, with the 63-year-old brought in as Ronald Koeman’s replacement.

The Toffees sacked Koeman in October and took more than a month to find a replacement, but Allardyce has now landed the job, and will be busy preparing for this weekend’s game against Huddersfield Town.

Everton are still in big trouble at the wrong end of the Premier League table despite beating West Ham United 4-0 on Wednesday night, and Allardyce may have on eye on the January transfer window.

Defensive reinforcements are imperative for Everton after some shaky displays at the back, and 24 Sata in Croatia recently reported that the Toffees have offered a deal to Dynamo Kiev defender Domagoj Vida.

The Chronicle reported earlier this year that Allardyce had Vida scouted during his time as Sunderland manager, having impressed for Croatia at Euro 2016 – just before Allardyce left to become England manager.

Now, over a year on, Allardyce needs another defensive option, and Vida already appears to have been targeted by Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh, with Allardyce’s prior interest adding to the idea that it’s destiny for Vida to head to Goodison Park in January.

The 28-year-old centre back, who can also play at right back, is out of contract in January, meaning Everton can sign him a bargain free transfer move when the transfer window opens – though AC Milan are also interested.

An experienced performer domestically and on the international stage, Vida could boost the Everton back line, and having previously looked at signing him at Sunderland, Allardyce may well sanction a move to sign him for nothing this time around.
