Aberdeen legend Willie Miller believes Scott Wright is ‘destined’ to sign for Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers and would rather see the deal completed as soon as possible, as he told the Aberdeen Express.
It makes little sense to keep hold of a player who is pining for a move elsewhere, especially when that same player is out of contract at the end of the season.
Dons boss Derek McInnes has already confirmed that Wright has turned down the chance to sign fresh terms at Pittodrie and, while there can be no doubts about his professionalism, the 23-year-old’s head has understandably been turned by the runaway league leaders.
The Sun claims that Rangers are hoping to strike a pre-contract agreement with Wright, which would see the versatile attacker move to Ibrox on a free in June.
But Miller believes Aberdeen would be better off letting Wright go immediately, particularly if that means the Rangers-owned Ross McCrorie signs a permanent contract with the Dons as part of a swap deal.
“Scott Wright seems destined to join Rangers and could leave Aberdeen this month or at the end of the season,” said Miller, who played nearly 600 league games in two decades at Pittodrie.

“My opinion is that if the attacker has decided he wants to move on, then it would be better that a deal is done sooner rather than later.
“A player-swap deal has been mooted. Rangers could pay a fee or, with the Reds buying Ross McCrorie in the summer, a deal for Wright could be worked into that.
“I would rather the clubs could agree a deal which suits both of them in this window.”
It remains to be seen whether Wright will be brought in to enhance Gerrard’s squad or to eventually replace a player who could be on his way out of Ibrox over the summer.
The seldom-seen Jordan Jones is surely set to depart, while Ianis Hagi’s future had come into question due to his lack of regular minutes.
