Tottenham Hotspur take on Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur’s current problems have been well-documented – and goalkeeper Michel Vorm is certainly one of the issues facing Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino has now lost three games in a row for the first time as Spurs manager after the 2-1 defeat at Inter Milan on Tuesday, following defeats to Watford and Liverpool.
The Argentinian now appears to be rattled for the first time as Spurs boss, and the problems are mounting both on and off the pitch in North London.
With no home stadium, no summer signings made, a captain arrested and a star striker exhausted and playing below his usual levels, Spurs face major problems, and need a result at Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend.
Pochettino has key decisions to make with his team, and with concerns about goalkeeper Michel Vorm – and with Hugo Lloris still out – it may be time for Paulo Gazzaniga to play.
The Argentinian, snapped up from Southampton for £2million in 2016 (The Sun), reunited with his former Southampton boss Pochettino, arriving at Tottenham as third-choice goalkeeper behind Vorm and Lloris.
So far, the 26-year-old has only made one appearance under Pochettino, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last season when Lloris and Vorm were unavailable, turning in a strong performance.
It’s unclear just why Gazzaniga hasn’t even been given cup matches, but with Vorm desperately struggling and giving no confidence to his back line, it’s time for Gazzaniga to be given another chance in an attempt to solve the recent defensive woes; after all, it’s unlikely he would be worse than Vorm on current form.
