Despite four goals this season and half-price fee, Everton should still avoid signing Ilija Nestorovski

Long-term Everton target Ilija Nestorovski is reportedly available for half the price he was available for earlier this year.

Everton’s search for a new striker is set to resume during the January transfer window, with links already emerging to potential targets for Ronald Koeman.

The Toffees splashed the cash on a host of new signings over the summer, but failed to bring in a big striker to replace Romelu Lukaku following his move to Manchester United appears to be a grave mistake.

Oumar Niasse may have scored twice against Bournemouth on Saturday, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has shown some promise, but Everton need a striker they can rely on for goals in the Premier League.

Earlier this year, Calcio Mercato reported that Everton were keen on signing Palermo hitman Ilija Nestorovski, though a deal for the Macedonian would have set the Toffees back €20million (£17.5million).

Now, Calcio Mercato claim that Palermo are willing to sell Nestorovski for just €10million (£8.75million), with Premier League teams allegedly still keen on signing him.

The former Inter Zapresic striker hit 11 goals in his first Serie A campaign last season, but couldn’t stop Palermo from suffering relegation, whilst he has already notched four goals in five games in Serie B this term.

However, despite the knockdown price and his strong start to the season, Everton should be looking for better than Nestorovski, who will be turning 28 in March and has just one season in a top league to his name.

Everton need a striker with more of a track record of success in a major European league, somebody they can rely upon for goals in the Premier League having lost their top goalscorer from last season in Lukaku.

As another option in attack, an £8.75million move for Nestorovski may not be a terrible move, but there would be questions over whether he is really any better than Niasse or Calvert-Lewin, and if Everton are to spend on a new forward in January, it has to be a major addition – and Nestorovski doesn’t fit the bill.
