Aston Villa were beaten 3-1 by Everton yesterday in Premier League action.
Despite Aston Villa’s defeat to Everton, manager Remi Garde has told FourFourTwo that he still spotted positive signs from his side.
Villa were beaten 3-1 by Everton in front of their own fans yesterday, and the defeat has left them nine points adrift of safety.
However, Garde was pleased with the way that his side responded after falling behind against the Toffees.
“The lack of confidence was so early because we were 1-0 then 2-0 down,” Garde said. “We were too fragile, we didn’t take the advantage of playing at home.
“The positive sign is that we never gave up and we reduced the score.
“But it’s difficult to keep a positive mood when you miss chances like we missed today.”
In Villa’s last match at home, they fell to a 6-0 defeat against Liverpool, so it is fair to say that they made some improvements against Everton.
The Midlands side’s performance was still well short of the standard required to pick up points in the Premier League, though.
Everton were able to race into a three-goal lead before the hour mark, after scoring goals through Ramiro Funes Mori, Aaron Lennon and Romelu Lukaku.
Villa did hit back through Rudy Gestede, but that strike was too late to be considered anything other than a consolation.
Villa’s next match comes against Manchester City on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.
