Despite Ahmed Musa’s comments, Leeds should try their hand in January

The Leicester City winger would be an exciting addition to Leeds United’s squad.

Leeds United signed so many players in the summer that the prospect of more new additions in January may be the last thing on some people’s minds, but the simple fact is the Whites need more quality if they want to secure promotion come May.

One man who could be available is Leicester City winger Ahmed Musa, and while the player recently told sport-express.ru that it would be hard to consider dropping into the second tier, he may have to reassess his priorities for the good of his short-term career.

Now 25, the Nigerian cannot afford to sit on the periphery for an entire season, a prospect that looks likely if he remains at the King Power Stadium in the summer. And Leeds would be smart to consider a move for a player who tore opposition defences to shreds during his time at CSKA Moscow, only to slip off the radar almost entirely after joining the Foxes.

Musa’s return of 54 goals and 29 assists in 168 appearances for the Russian club is a decent record, and his pace and finishing could cause Championship defences no end of headaches if Leeds could somehow tempt him to spend the second half of this season on loan at Elland Road.

Leeds need far more quality in forward areas and Musa would represent a relatively risk-free loan option who will surely be desperate to make up for lost time.

His pace is electric – something Manchester United found to their cost when they faced the forward in the Champions League prior to his move to Leicester.

There are few quality options available midway through a campaign but Musa is certainly on that list and Leeds could pull off quite a coup if they move fast, especially when you consider he is everything Pierre-Michel Lasogga is not: a striker-cum-winger with pace to burn and the movement to excel alongside Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski.
