Stan Collymore has strongly criticised Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Twitter for his comments on Monday.
During Monday’s pre-match press conference ahead of the EFL Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester City, Arteta threw out some statistics to try to explain his side’s disappointing form.
The Gunners lost yet again in the Premier League at the weekend and are now just four points above the relegation zone.
Arteta said, as quoted on Arsenal’s official website: “Last year we won the game against Everton with a 25 per cent chance of winning, you win 3-2. Last weekend, it was a 67 per cent chance of winning, any Premier League game in history, and a nine per cent chance of losing, and you lose. Three per cent against Burnley and you lose, seven per cent against Spurs, and you lose.”
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Collymore has slammed Arteta on Twitter for his comments.
Collymore wrote on Twitter: “Absolute load of f****ing cobblers. Data analysts justifying a job who get into the head of a coach or manager who start to believe this crud.
“Data in a sport like football can only ever be a pointer, because the sport is simply too unpredictable. Desperate stuff from Arteta.”
Bouncing back
Arteta cannot be blamed entirely for Arsenal’s problems, but it is clear that the Spaniard needs to get his team sorted.
The Gunners are unlikely to be involved into a relegation battle, but the North London outfit cannot be comfortable at the moment.
Arsenal are struggling to create chances and score enough goals, and Arteta needs to address that issue straightaway.
It is going to be a very tricky period for Arsenal in the coming weeks during the busy festive period, and maybe the North London club will have to dip into the transfer market when it opens in January.
