A failure to sign a senior striker in two consecutive transfer windows has left Arsenal thin at the position, while in the midst of competing for three trophies including the Premier League title.
So could the Gunners still make a shock move an snap up a free agent striker to help them out?
While the options out there are certainly slim pickings, let’s face it, Arsene Wenger is not averse to the odd calculated gamble, illustrated just last week as he signed Kim Kallstrom on loan despite knowing the Swede was injured.
This is also the man who re-signed the duo of Sol Campbell and Jens Lehmann mid-season to act as cover when the club needed them. As Wenger said with regards to Kallstrom, ‘What if he scores the title winning goal?’
Here are three potential options who a desperate Wenger could turn to, now, or in case of any further injuries to the front line…
Vincenzo Iaquinta
Vincenzo Iaquinta was released by Juventus last summer and has stubbornly refused to sign for any clubs he feels are below his standing. Iaquinta has 40 Italy caps to his name, scoring at the 2010 World Cup. He made his name at Udinese where he scored more than 70 goals. His star has seriously waned in the past few years, but could one last hurrah bring the best out of him?
Roberto Nanni
Argentine striker Roberto Nanni, 32, was the Copa Libertadores top scorer as recently as 2011. Previously a €4 million signing for Dynamo Kiev, his contract with Mexican side Atlante expired last month, where he had netted three times in nine games.
