Martin Tyler told Sky Sports Premier League on Tuesday evening that he hopes it ‘works well’ for Ryan Mason as Tottenham’s interim coach.
Following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, Spurs opted to go down the road of appointing the 29-year-old until the end of the season and Tyler shared that he ‘deserves a break’.
Mason’s career in professional football was cut short when he suffered a serious head injury against Chelsea in 2017 – one year later he was forced to retire.
Sky commentator, Tyler, was at Stamford Bridge last night, where Mason’s injury occurred, and he sent this classy message to Tottenham’s new boss.
“Just a moment to wish Ryan Mason good luck in his job as interim manager of Tottenham Hotspur,” said Tyler.
“His playing career was ended on a day when our cameras were here (Stamford Bridge), with that fractured skull playing for Hull City.
“And he deserves a break. I hope it works well for him to move into management at a much earlier age than he would have done.
“It says something about the story about the Super League that the departure of Jose Mourinho has only been a footnote to most news programmes.”
This could be some start to life in management for Mason because, by the end of the week, he has the chance to lift a trophy.
Jose Mourinho was denied that chance before he was sacked and Mauricio Pochettino’s side played all the pretty stuff during his time at the club, but there wasn’t that end product.
And now, what Pochettino couldn’t achieve in five+ years, Mason can deliver in less than a week if he can see past Manchester City on Sunday.
