Speaking on the PLZ Football Podcast, Scottish Football pundit, Richard Foster, has been discussing Ange Postecoglou and his recent links to Leeds United.

It has been reported that Leeds are keen on the idea of Postecoglou becoming their new manager, but Foster believes that there’s only one reason the Australian would leave Celtic – money.

Indeed, the pundit says that the Celtic boss deserves to be at a much bigger club that Leeds, stating that he won’t be challenging for trophies at Elland Road anytime soon.

Postecoglou will only leave for money

The pundit spoke about the Australian.

“I’ve spoken about this numerous times. It can only be money, the only reason any manager leaves the Old Firm to manage teams that aren’t top-end of the Premier League, it can only be money. Ange Posteoglou looks like he’s going to win the league, he has two other trophies to play for, he can be in the Champions League, you won’t get that at Leeds.

“You’re taking over a team that aren’t doing well and you need to start again and rebuild that, I can’t see it happening. The success he has had at Celtic, I think he deserves a bigger team than Leeds in England. People will shoot me down, but he shouldn’t leave Celtic for a Leeds United. He should wait for a bigger team.”

Money is important

With all due respect to Leeds, Celtic are, historically, the bigger club in a lot of ways, but Leeds can pay Postecoglou a lot more than the Glasgow club.

While some may see that as a disingenuous reason to leave Celtic Park, it’s as valid a reason as any.

Think about it, Postecoglou is 57 years old and he’s only just getting his name out there as a top manager in Europe. He won’t have made generation-changing money within the game yet.

If he wants to secure the future of his family for years to come, he needs to earn the big bucks, and that’s why a move to the Premier League could be so tempting.

Is Postecoglou good enough to manage a bigger club? Probably, do Leeds stand a chance of getting him? Definitely.
