Carlos Vinicius has been speaking to ESPN Brasil about Tottenham, just months after he left Spurs to return to Benfica.

What’s the story?

Well, the man who spent last season on loan at Tottenham has made quite a big claim about the north Londoners.

Vinicius believes Nuno Espirito Santo will lift a trophy in his first season as Tottenham boss, due to Harry Kane and Heung-min Son’s partnership.

The Brazilian said: “They make a perfect duo because one fits with the other. In terms of pairing, they are way ahead. What they need is only one title. Unfortunately it hasn’t come yet, but this season they’ll bring it. They deserve it because they are for many years proving they have the quality to be champions. They are top level players.”

Now, that is a very bold statement, as Spurs haven’t won silverware since 2008.

Vinicius isn’t wrong about Kane and Son, however.

The pair are absolutely lethal together, and the Premier League has seldom seen a duo who work so well.

However, they have not been as effective this season, as Kane struggles for form – the 65-cap England international has netted just one Premier League goal so far this term.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son aren’t enough for Tottenham

Vinicius is right about the brilliance of Kane and Son, but we have to disagree with his belief that Tottenham will win a trophy this season.

The dynamic duo alone are not enough to earn silverware.

Tottenham still have some issues in the centre-back department, with Nuno yet to find a pairing he’s prepared to stick with week in, week out.

Midfield is also an issue, with Giovani Lo Celso far from dependable whereas Tanguy Ndombele is in and out of the starting XI.

Simply put, there are too many things wrong with Nuno’s squad right now to challenge for a trophy, in our view.

Tottenham are in a rebuilding phase, and trophies cannot be expected just yet.
