Tottenham Hotspur signed Mossa Sissoko on transfer deadline day, for a fee believed to be in the region of £30 million.
France national team manager Didier Deschamps has spoken in defence of Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko, during an exclusive interview with French media outlet Foot Mercato, highlighting the player’s performances at Euro 2016 as evidence of his talent and commitment.
The 27-year-old former Newcastle United man has come under fire over this past month, with his attitude and ability been questioned by none other than his own manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine explained how he expected more of Sissoko, after signing the Frenchman on transfer deadline day, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“If you sign a player and you expect something, and you do not find what you expect, and if another deserves to be involved, then why do we play another? Because we paid money we need to put the player to play?”

But Deschamps, who manages Sissoko at international level, described how the Spurs man is a player who can be trusted to perform consistency, when speaking to Foot Mercato:
“There were some who said he shouldn’t have been at the Euros. Look at what he did. He’s a warrior. You can rely on him. You can’t just say he’s all about power and speed. When you don’t have a normal preseason, you pay for it a bit. I know him. He’ll get to work, and I don’t call his quality into question.”

The midfielder has made just four Premier League starts for Tottenham since his summer switch to White Hart Lane, and many pundits and fans have already written off the Frenchman’s career in north London.
There is still plenty of time for him to prove the doubters wrong, however, and if he can replicate the form he showed during his time at Newcastle, he could very well become a valuable asset for the Lilywhites.
