Tottenham ace Davinson Sanchez was sent off for an incident involving Watford’s Richarlison.
Sanchez, 21, a summer signing from Ajax, was shown the red card for what appeared to be an elbow that directly landed in the face of Watford’s in-form attacker Richarlison.
The decision by Atkinson has sparked a lot of debate among pundits and fans alike, but Gallagher looked to put that debate to rest by stating that it was a certain red card on Sanchez.
He agreed with Atkinson when speaking to the Premier League Daily Show on Monday morning, describing the decision to send Sanchez off as “great teamwork” by the match officials.
“This is the right decision and great teamwork from the officials,” Gallagher said. “The best view anyone had of this was the fourth official, who relayed to the referee what the player had done. When you see it from behind, it’s a definite red card.”
Sanchez has shone for Spurs since joining the north Londoners from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer, after impressing in their run to the Europa League final where they eventually lost to Manchester United last season.
Colombia international Sanchez has helped Spurs keep six clean sheets in his 17 league and cup appearances, of which the north Londoners have won 10 matches.
Shone a straight red card, Sanchez is now expected to miss three matches against Stoke and Brighton as well as a huge clash against league leaders Manchester City on December 16.
