Ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has told Sky Sports News (17/12, 10:30am) that he doesn’t think Scott Brown should have been sent off for Celtic against Hibernian.

The Bhoys travelled to Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon to take on Hibs, and were looking to pick up a key result in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ side were disappointing at Easter Road, and fell behind after just a matter of seconds as Vykintas Slivka put Hibs in front.

Florian Kamberi added a second after the break, giving Hibs a 2-0 win as Celtic trudged back to Glasgow empty-handed following a dismal performance.

With Rangers beating Hamilton Academical later in the day, Celti saw their bitter rivals take top spot, and are in need of a real pick-me-up.

One major talking point emerged from the game, as Celtic captain Brown was booked for a heavy challenge on Slivka, one that many felt should have been punished with a red card.

Brown only got a caution, and ex-Premier League referee Gallagher has backed the decision, suggesting that whilst it was aggressive, it wasn’t with the use of his studs and wasn’t high either, meaning there were no grounds for a red.

“Yellow card,” said Gallagher. “Low, aggressive I know, but not leading with the studs. He hasn’t led with his studs, and he’s come a short distance,” he added.
