Rangers felt hard done by on Sunday as they lost 2-1 to Aberdeen with a contentious last-gasp goal.
Former referee Dermot Gallagher
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has told Sky Sports that he felt Rangers were hard done by against Aberdeen on Sunday.
Rangers travelled to Pittodrie for a vital clash with rivals Aberdeen, and fell behind just seconds after the half time interval as Jonny Hayes ran through to score a simple goal.
Rangers’ James Tavernier celebrates
Mark Warbuton’s Gers did hit back though as Andy Halliday scored from the penalty spot following a foul on Lee Wallace, but controversy surrounded the end of the game.
James Maddison whipped a superb free kick into the net via the post to win the game for Aberdeen in stoppage time, but Rangers contested that the free kick shouldn’t even hae been given.
Hayes was breaking forward for the Dons before being stopped by a sliding challenge from James Tavernier, who appeared to take the ball – and not only did the referee give the challenge as a foul, but he also booked Tavernier for the tackle.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Manager Warburton was understandably furious on the touchline as Aberdeen were presented with the chance to score in the dying seconds, with Rangers losing 2-1 in controversial fashion.
Earlier today, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher spoke to Sky Sports about the decision – and he thinks Rangers were hard done by.

Gallagher thinks that referee John Beaton was too close to the action and didn’t give himself a good enough view to see the whole play, meaning Rangers should have left Pittodrie with a point on Sunday.
“I thought so,” said Gallagher when asked whether Tavernier won the ball. “I didn’t think it was a foul. The referee has got the view that he hasn’t got the ball. I wonder whether he’s too close, and he’s just seen the player go down and seen the ball move away, and felt that the forward has touched the ball away and Tavernier has taken his leg, but for me it was a good tackle,” he added.
