Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has claimed on Sky Sports that Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack was not fouled in the lead up to Celtic’s goal during the Old Firm derby.

Scotland international Jack and Australia World Cup star Rogic tangled for possession of a lofted ball, after it had been cleared by the Celtic defence following a Rangers corner.

Jack went to ground under the challenge of Rogic, before the playmaker broke away and fed Odsonne Edouard, who found James Forrest. The latter squared to Olivier Ntcham for the only goal of the game.

Gerrard was furious that Willie Collum had missed the foul on Jack as he suffered his first defeat as Rangers manager in 13 games, but Gallagher disagrees with the former Liverpool and England captain.

“He may well have been calling a foul, but to give Tom Rogic the advantage,” Gallagher said. “If you look, it looks as though Jack jumps into Rogic, I don’t think Rogic does a lot wrong.

“I don’t think it was a foul, and if it was a foul, I think it was against the Rangers player.”

The goal stretches Celtic’s run of 12 competitive matches without defeat against Rangers since the Light Blues gained promotion back to the top flight of Scottish football in 2015-16.

Rangers sit way down in seventh in what is their poorest start to the Scottish Premiership season in 29 years with five points from four games, while Celtic sit in second behind Hearts on nine.

The two sides go head to head once again on December 29 at Ibrox, before returning for a third league clash on March 30.
