Rangers aren’t expected to be busy in the transfer market this month, but one signing could still take place.

The Gers are currently coasting to the Scottish Premiership title, and there aren’t many areas that Rangers need to strengthen right now.

Yet with Brandon Barker a bit-part player and Jordan Jones’ future unclear, another winger may be a priority for Steven Gerrard.

Aberdeen’s Scott Wright has emerged as a shock target for Rangers, given that he is now inside the final six months of his contract at Pittodrie.

The 23-year-old can sign a pre-contract agreement this month, but The Scottish Sun report that Aberdeen expect a deal to happen which would see him join immediately.

Wright is quick and tricky, but also fulfils a homegrown quota spot too, and he could be a smart depth signing for Rangers out wide.

Now, Dons boss Derek McInnes has suggested that Rangers have made it clear that they want Wright for next season, but he wants the situation resolved very soon in order to know whether he is going now or in the summer.

“As far as I’m concerned, both myself and the chairman have had no other contact from Rangers since the start of the week,” said McInnes (Daily Record). “They’ve made it clear Scott’s a player they want to work with for next season and if they want to work with him for the rest of this season clearly it has to be a good offer.”

“But until that’s the case then we stay as we are, he’s our player. It would be good if we can get it resolved but if not we’ve got to stay as we are. I’ll keep getting asked the question but there’s been no further dialogue other than their initial approach,” he added.
