Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic reportedly want to sign Scott McKenna from Aberdeen in the summer transfer window.
Earlier this week, Aberdeen turned down a bid of £3.5 million from Celtic for Scott McKenna, as reported by BBC Sport.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes subsequently said that the 21-year-old defender will not move to Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic in the summer transfer window.
McInnes told BBC Sport: “A conversation was had between ourselves and Celtic. An offer was then put into the club which was rejected and we move on.”
Celtic, though, do not have given up on the Scotland international defender, according to The Daily Record.
It has been reported that the Glasgow giants are considering making a new bid for the 21-year-old, who is one of the best young defenders in the Scottish Premiership.
Aberdeen boss McInnes, though, does not seem to have changed his stance, reiterating that the defender will not leave for Celtic in the summer transfer window.
McInnes told The Express: “We’ve had a conversation with Celtic and made our position clear, and they have accepted that. I spoke to Brendan and they have spoken at boardroom level.
“It’s difficult to react to another rumour that someone is thinking about putting in another offer.
“McKenna’s market, for me, will be the English Premier League. We’re not in a position where we need to do a deal.”
Moving on
McInnes seems adamant about the future of McKenna, and maybe it would be best for Celtic if they move on as they could end up wasting their time over their reported pursuit of the 21-year-old defender.
Celtic, though, do need a defender, as the Glasgow giants have struggled at the back so far this season.
