Derek McInnes offers angry response to Rangers rumours – but reports claim Ibrox return may be on

Rangers continue to be linked with a move to bring Derek McInnes to Ibrox.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has told the Daily Mail that he isn’t impressed with how talk of a move to Rangers has dragged on so long.

McInnes lost 3-0 at Ibrox on Wednesday night, and he suffered another defeat to the Gers on Sunday afternoon, with Rangers beating his Aberdeen side 2-1 at Pittodrie.

Rangers’ caretaker boss Graeme Murty has now won four of his six games in temporary charge of the club following Pedro Caixinha’s exit, but speculation continues over the next man in the job.

The Scottish Sun report that Rangers are finally set to approach McInnes this week over becoming their new manager, after more than a month of rumours surrounding a move for the 46-year-old.

McInnes, a former Rangers midfielder, has impressed with Aberdeen since becoming their manager in April 2013, winning almost 58% of his games in charge of the Dons.

Many ex-Rangers players want him to land the job and a return to Ibrox – despite his two defeats to Rangers this past week – but the man himself isn’t too impressed with the rumours.

McInnes has told the Daily Mail that that he feels the Rangers rumours have ‘dragged on and on’ in recent weeks despite making it clear that he wouldn’t be leaving Pittodrie for Ibrox.

McInnes added that he wanted to get the double-header against Rangers out of the way, whilst suggesting that former players seem to know more about his future than he does.

“I made my position clear a few weeks ago and this has been ongoing,” said McInnes. “It just feels as if it has dragged on and dragged on. I’m not happy with how things have been played out. I know you boys have a job to do and must be getting fed some sort of stuff, so there has been plenty of encouragement to run stories.”

“Ex-players seem to know a lot more than everybody else. Everybody seems to be in the know and, every other day, there is someone giving an opinion on my future and what Rangers are doing. It hasn’t been as straightforward as it should have been over the last few weeks. Today it was good to get the game out of the way, and play and try to win the match. The motivation was clear for everybody. My job is to try to get a winning team on the pitch — not to constantly fend off questions you guys need to ask,” he added.
