Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes will be staying at Pittodrie.
Aberdeen have confirmed on their official website that manager Derek McInnes has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract.
McInnes, 43, arrived as Dons manager back in March 2013, taking over from Craig Brown after a torrid spell in England with Bristol City.
The Scot has now proven his doubters wrong, leading Aberdeen to a remarkable season which saw them push Celtic all the way in the title race, eventually finishing second to the Bhoys.
To even challenge Ronny Deila’s men was a superb achievement for McInnes and Aberdeen given the difference in budget, and the highly-rated manager can now look forward to another push next season having committed his future to the club.
Aberdeen confirmed on Friday night that McInnes had signed a new two-year contract at Pittodrie, keeping him at the club until 2019 – and ending all speculation over his future in the process.
The Daily Mail recently reported that, with Rangers looking to appoint a new manager ahead of the upcoming Scottish Championship season, the key decision makers at Ibrox had earmarked McInnes as a prime candidate for the role.
McInnes played 53 games for Rangers as a midfielder during the 1990’s, but won’t be making his return to Ibrox having pledged his future to Aberdeen – leaving Rangers chairman Dave King to look elsewhere for a new manager.
