Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has criticised Rangers defender Nikola Katic for his involvement in the goals that Steven Gerrard’s side scored at Ibrox at the weekend, as quoted on BBC Sport.

Rangers got the better of Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

James Tavernier scored both the goals for the Gers, first just three minutes into the second half and then on 80 minutes.

Both the goals from the Rangers defender were from the penalty spot, and both the penalties were earned by 22-year-old central defender Katic.

The Croatia international centre-back was adjudged to have been fouled by Lewis Ferguson for Rangers’ first penalty.

Andrew Considine was adjudged to have elbowed the youngster – who joined Rangers from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £2 million – for the Gers’ second spot kick on 80 minutes and was subsequently sent off for two bookable offences.

Aberdeen manager McInnes has strongly criticised Katic for his involvement in the two penalty incidents.

McInnes told BBC Sport about Katic: “The second penalty kick, words fail me how that can be given. It’s a terrible decision and has a huge impact on the final result. I think the referee should deal with it better and see it for what it is.

“I think the Rangers player should hang his head in shame at the way he went down. There’s absolutely no contact and I think he’s the one who should have been dealt with for trying to buy a penalty kick.”
