Rangers failed to lure Derek McInnes to Ibrox in December.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has told The Scottish Sun that he isn’t interested in how the Rangers crowd will treat him at Ibrox later this month.
McInnes has impressed as Aberdeen boss since landing the job in April 2013, and his exploits have attracted major interest over the last year.
Sunderland tried and failed to land him last summer, but many expected him to move on and take the Rangers job when approached to become Pedro Caixinha’s replacement last month.
McInnes surprisingly rejected the job despite growing up as a Rangers fan, leaving many shocked as he decided to stay at Pittodrie and continue his job with Aberdeen.
Rangers have since handed the reins to Graeme Murty until the end of the season, and McInnes will make his first trip to Ibrox since snubbing Rangers later this month.
Ahead of that game, coming up after the winter break, McInnes has told The Scottish Sun that he isn’t remotely interested in how the Rangers crowd will treat him, as he is purely concerned with results on the pitch.
McInnes added that he tried to switch off from the rumours about Rangers, noting that everybody thought they knew he wanted to return to Ibrox having played for the club as a midfielder, but they didn’t know what he really wanted, which was to stay at Aberdeen.
“I’m not interested in that, to be honest,” said McInnes. “It’s all about concentrating now on my team and getting results in the second half of the season.
“It’s the nature of the job and you have to deal with it. But I think you learn what is important. You should switch off from what isn’t important because you are never going to please everybody. People think they know you, but they don’t really. It’s trying to keep everything real, and I was absolutely fine with it,” he added.
