Derek McInnes comments on facing Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack joined Ibrox in the summer transfer window after leaving Aberdeen.

Rangers will return to action this evening when they take on Aberdeen at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers and Aberdeen are two of the sides aiming to finish behind Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic in second place in the league table this season.

The Dons have a better squad and are also in better form, and they will head into this evening’s match high on confidence.

Playing at home, though, will give Rangers an advantage, and the Ibrox fans will surely help the team by cheering them throughout the 90 minutes.

This evening’s match will also see Ryan Jack face his former club Aberdeen for the first time since leaving them in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder left Aberdeen at the end of last season to move to Rangers.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has admitted that he was disappointed to see Jack leave the Pittodrie Stadium, but he has made it clear that there is no problem between him and the Scotland international.

“There’s no problem at all with Ryan and myself,” McInnes told The Scottish Sun. “I’m sure the players still keep in touch with all their former team-mates.

“We have a really tight squad — and players all keep in touch with the players who moved on in the summer. I was more disappointed that he was going because he was an important player for us.

“I tried to show him that importance by making him captain. I was equally as disappointed when Niall McGinn, Peter Pawlett, Ash Taylor and Jonny Hayes left. But it is part and parcel of football, you want to work with good players and Ryan is a good player.”

Meanwhile, former Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan has told BT Sport when asked if Rangers can finish second: “Can they finish second? It depends on who they bring in.

“They need a manager asap. If a manager comes in, will they give him money in January? Do they have money in January to spend? To be honest, I don’t think this squad is good enough to come second.”
