Glasgow Rangers are aiming to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Derek Johnstone has written in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers have no chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Rangers, who gained automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of last season, are aiming to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership this campaign.
Mark Warburton’s side are fourth in the league table at the moment with 19 points from 11 matches.
The Gers are 12 points behind Celtic, who have the best squad in Scotland and are firm favourites for the title.
Former Rangers star Johnstone, who played for the Ibrox outfit in the 1970s and the 1980s, believes that Warburton’s side will not win the league title this season.

The former Scotland international has also outlined the importance of Rangers finishing second in the Scottish Premiership this season.
“I hate to say this, but even although it’s only November, there is next to no chance of Rangers overtaking Celtic at the top of the table this season,” Johnstone wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“If we’re being honest, then it’s basically between Rangers, Hearts and Aberdeen for that second spot and that has to be the focus, but that doesn’t mean that every game they play is not going to be absolutely vital.”
“It’s imperative thought that Rangers do get second, because although getting European football will be key to closing the gap, they don’t want to be starting next season at the end of June if they are going to try to mount a challenge to Celtic next season,” added Johnstone.

Rangers will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on bottom side Ross County away from home at the Global Energy Stadium in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers will head into the match as favourites and should be able to pick up all three points with ease.
