Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers have been linked with Louis Moult of Motherwell and Heart of Midlothian’s Jamie Walker in the summer transfer window.

Derek Johnstone has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers should sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

The 63-year-old Rangers legend has claimed that the Gers still need to sign a natural centre-forward this summer.

The former Scotland international has also stated that he would like to see Louis Moult join the Ibrox outfit for the 2017-18 campaign.

Moult is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership and is on the books of Motherwell at the moment.

The 25-year-old knows the top flight of Scottish football well, and the striker has actually been linked with a move to Rangers in the summer transfer window. Back in May, The Scottish Sun reported of Rangers’ interest in Moult.

Johnstone has also stated that he would take Moult ahead of Jamie Walker, who has also been linked with a move to Rangers this summer.

According to The Daily Record, Pedro Caixinha’s side want to secure the services of the 24-year-old winger from Heart of Midlothian this summer.

“This is no disrespect to Kenny Miller, but at 37-years-old he shouldn’t be the best striker at Rangers,” Johnstone wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.

“Other players have to come to the fore this season and I would like to see another forward come in between now and the transfer window closing as well.

“That is the one area of the team that I still have reservations over and I think we still need a natural centre-forward in the side.”

“I keep mentioning Louis Moult,” added Johnstone. “He scored a lot of goals for Motherwell last season and he is someone that is an out-and-out striker.

“I want someone that is in the box, that is ready to pounce on crosses and that can guarantee you 20 goals a season.

“For me, if it is going to cost £750,000, then so be it. I would take Moult in the team before I would take Jamie Walker,” continued Johnstone.

Michael O'Halloran of Rangers during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on August 6, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Meanwhile, Johnstone has explained why Michael O’Halloran failed to make an impact at Rangers.

The 26-year-old joined the Glasgow giants in February 2016, and the forward has returned to St Johnstone on loan until January.

“When he played well for Tommy Wright’s side, it was when they were breaking on teams and he could use pace to hurt defences, create chances and score goals,” Johnstone wrote about O’Halloran in The Glasgow Evening Times.

“At Rangers, you are attacking most of the time and teams have got eight, nine, ten players behind the ball so there is very little space for you to play in. That doesn’t suit Michael’s game.”
