Forrester proved the impact he can have as Glasgow Rangers’ super-sub in the club’s most recent game.
Rangers’ Harry Forrester
Derek Johnstone has told the Evening Times that if Rangers want to see the best out of Harry Forrester, they should perhaps refrain from including him in their starting line-up and instead, look to bring him on during the latter stages of their games.
The 25-year-old has made an indifferent start to the season. Of his nine Scottish Premiership appearances this term, he has started just five times for Mark Warburton’s men, having struggled to really establish himself as a key man for the Gers.
However, it appears that he did stake a claim to start more often in their most recent fixture as he came off the bench to bag the stoppage-time winner against Dundee at Ibrox.
Nevertheless, Johnstone has suggested that the impact that Forrester made against Paul Hartley’s men means that it may make more sense for Warburton to leave him on the bench until the latter stages of games in future.
Harry Forrester
“He will want to start games but he can be really effective from the bench. He upsets the opposition and he gets other players playing,” he told the Evening Times.
“I like him as a player, he is someone that runs at people and takes them on. He is not afraid to have an attempt at target and it was a really important goal he scored at the weekend.
“Perhaps I am doing him a disservice, but I think he is maybe a better option coming off the bench and going into a game in the second half than he is from the start.”
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
While Johnstone feels that the former Doncaster man would perhaps make the greatest impact if he was brought on, it is fair to say that he has also been able to make his mark on games when he has been in the starting line-up.
Forrester is the club’s joint top goalscorer in the top flight with three strikes to his name. And while one of those goals came against Dundee, the other two came in games that he started, so he has proved that he is capable of making an impact at any time.
