New Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha was only unveiled at Ibrox this week, but has already made changes.
New Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Derek Johnstone has told the Evening Times that he was disappointed to hear that Pedro Caixinha has decided to replace Jim Stewart as Rangers’ goalkeeping coach.
The Scottish Sun reported that Stewart was set to be released by the club after nearly a decade at Ibrox as Caixinha wanted to bring in Jose Belman to work with the stoppers at Murray Park.
And Johnstone has suggested that, while he understands the new man will want his own team alongside him, he feels that Stewart probably still had something to offer the Light Blues.
“I was disappointed to hear that Jim Stewart won’t be part of the new management team, though. I have known Jim for years and he has helped bring on so many keepers at Rangers,” he told the Evening Times.

“He would have wanted to stay and work with Pedro but he obviously wants to bring his own people in. He has been a good servant to the club and I am sure everyone will wish him well.”
While the news would have disappointed some – especially those who wanted Caixinha to keep people who know exactly what Rangers is all about around – it could certainly be argued that it makes sense to make some brutal decisions.

Unfortunately for the Ibrox faithful, the Gers look set to finish well adrift of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, so it is not that surprising that Caixinha perhaps deems that he needs to make wholesale changes to get fresh ideas on board and build a different atmosphere around the club.
While Johnstone clearly feels that Stewart would have brought something to the table, Caixinha may have felt that that was one of the changes that was necessary to move things in a different direction.
