Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers bowed out of the Europa League this week.
Derek Johnstone has told The Glasgow Evening Times that it is “absolute nonsense” to believe Pedro Caixinha’s job as Rangers manager is at risk.
Rangers suffered a horrendous 2-0 defeat at Progres Niederkorn on Tuesday to bow out of the Europa League in the first qualifying round of the competition.
The 46-year-old confronted angry Gers supporters at full time, before the fans launched a torrent of abuse at those inside the club’s team bus in Luxembourg.

Former Rangers striker Gordon Dalziel suggested to The Daily Record that the club’s board will be questioning whether to dispose of the Portuguese manager at the moment.
Plenty of Ibrox fans are likely pondering the same in the aftermath of such a dismal result, but Johnstone does not subscribe to the theory that Caixinha – who has signed nine new players this summer – needs to worry about his future in Glasgow.
He told The Glasgow Evening Times: “There have been a lot of questions about where the manager goes from here and I have seen some pundits saying that he will get the sack.
“That is absolute nonsense. The board have put their head on the chopping block by giving him the job and they have given him money to bring nine players in this summer. There is no way he will be replaced before a ball is kicked.”
Johnstone is right. Caixinha might be embarrassed about the Rangers defeat, but the reality is that he is only four months into a three-year contract and it makes little sense to part company with him on the back of this result.”
