Glasgow Rangers legends Derek Johnstone and Ally McCoist comment on Gers midfielder Josh Windass’ gesture to the fans.
Windass has hit the headlines this week for the wrong reasons, having gestured towards the Rangers fans on Tuesday evening.
After scoring in the Scottish Premiership game against Partick Thistle at the Firhill Stadium, the 24-year-old put his fingers to his lips apparently to shush the travelling Gers’ supporters.
Rangers fans are not happy with Windass following the controversial incident, and club legend Derek Johnstone has an idea how the former Accrington Stanley midfielder can make up for it – by apologising to the supporters.
Former Rangers striker and manager Ally McCoist has also given his take on the incident regarding Windass, who has scored 10 goals in 29 games for the Gers so far this season, according to The Glasgow Evening Times.
Johnstone told The Glasgow Evening Times: “Windass needs to apologise. The players do their media bits and pieces before and after the game, and that would be an opportunity for the lad to explain himself.
“Or, ironically, he could go on Twitter when I’m sure that’s where he’s read much of the criticism.”
The Scottish Sun quotes McCoist as saying: “He didn’t make any real gestures that would end him up in Stewart Street police station for a fortnight!
“He’s told the fans to shush. So come on fans, I meant lighten up a little bit, it’s a shush!”
Apologise and move on?
Windass’s gesture was ill-advised, and it could take some work from the midfielder to get himself back on the good books of the Rangers.
Perhaps an explanation or an apology could see Windass endear himself to the Ibrox faithful.
It would be even better if the midfielder maintains his current form for the rest of the season.
