Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers have sent Gers midfielder Greg Docherty out on loan from Ibrox to Shrewsbury Town.
Greg Docherty at Rangers
Docherty joined Rangers from Hamilton Academical in the January transfer window for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £600,000.
The 21-year-old midfielder was able to make only five appearances the Scottish Premiership for Rangers last season following his move from Hamilton in January, according to WhoScored.
Rangers have sent the Scotland Under-21 international to Shrewsbury Town in League One in England on loan for the 2018-19 campaign.
Rangers legend Johnstone, who had two different spells at the Ibrox club and won the league title three times with the Gers, believes that Docherty can be a long-term success at the Glasgow giants.
Johnstone wrote about Docherty in The Glasgow Evening Times: “Normally when you leave a club you go away because you are not performing and it is not happening for you.
“That isn’t the situation with Greg, though. He can’t be guaranteed the games he needs right now at Rangers but that doesn’t mean to say he can’t be a big player for us in the future.
“Steven has that respect for his players so he will have told Greg the situation face-to-face and hopefully he makes the most of his time away and can prove to the manager why he should be part of his plans next season.”

Working hard
Docherty is a very talented and promising young midfielder, and a loan spell in League One in England will help him develop.
The youngster will have to work hard and need to establish himself in the Shrewsbury starting lineup as the season progresses.
