Derek Johnstone criticises Rangers man Kenny Miller and his agent

Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers haven’t had Kenny Miller in a first-team squad for a month.

Derek Johnstone has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he does not believe Kenny Miller will be at Rangers next season and slammed his agent for airing his frustrations in public as of late.

The 37-year-old’s agent, David Baldwin, criticised Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha in two separate Instagram posts over two days for his treatment of Miller.

The Gers hitman has not been included in Caixinha’s squad for a game since the 2-0 defeat by Celtic in September, after which the veteran was dropped amid rumours that there was a leak somewhere in the Portuguese manager’s squad.

He is back training with Rangers’ first team after a brief stint with the Under-20s – which included a match – and Johnstone feels that the former Scotland marksman should have expressed his frustrations directly to the club rather than go through his representative, if that is the case.

“If he [Miller] isn’t happy, he should make that known to the club and keep it between the two of them. You sort it out between you,” he told The GET.

“If Kenny isn’t going to be there next season, which looks likely, then obviously the agent wants to protect his reputation, but I think he was wrong to put it out there in public.

“His client is 37 and there won’t be many more opportunities to make money out of him, so this is how they are protecting that.

“He is saying his player has done nothing and has been a fantastic professional for 20-odd years, and is looking after his player. That’s fine, but I’m sure Kenny has got a tongue in his head too and he has told the manager exactly how he feels.”

Miller is out of contract with the Blues in the summer and his form, combined with his reputation among Caixinha, means he probably won’t get an extension.

But the 46-year-old’s future at Ibrox is far from secure, and defeat in the Scottish League Cup semi-final to Motherwell this weekend would pile the pressure back on him, so if Miller were to perhaps rediscover his goalscoring touch for, say, Caixinha’s successor, then who knows.
