Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has suggested on Open Goal that Scott McKenna will be a good signing for Celtic in the January transfer window.

The Daily Mail reported in November 2018 that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will revive his interest in Aberdeen defender McKenna.

According to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 59, September 30, 2018), Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Swansea City and Norwich City all have scouted the Aberdeen defender this season (click here to read more).

Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson believes that McKenna will be a good signing for Celtic.

Ferguson said on Open Goal regarding McKenna to Celtic: “Tell you what, he is an out-and-out defender, big, strong. What you need at this level is pace, and he has got that in abundance.”

“You can see him getting better in terms of playing out from the back, but if you are asking for a defender, just go and defend, he is your man,” added Ferguson.

Scott McKenna of Aberdeen walks on the pitch with team mates prior to the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

January move for Scott McKenna?

McKenna is one of the best defenders in the Scottish Premiership and is playing well for Aberdeen at the moment.

With Aberdeen fighting for the league title this season, they may not be willing to sell the 22-year-old defender in the middle of the campaign.

With Dedryck Boyata out of contract at Celtic at the end of the season and yet to sign a new deal, McKenna will be a suitable replacement for the Belgium international defender.
