Pedro Caixinha is the man who Glasgow Rangers want to succeed Mark Warburton at Ibrox, according to reports.

Derek Ferguson has suggested that Paul Le Guen’s Ibrox tenure is the reason that Rangers should rethink the idea of making Pedro Caixinha their next manager, the Daily Record reports.

According to the Record, the Portuguese is the man who the Gers want as they look to bring an end to their search for Mark Warburton’s successor.

But former Light Blues midfielder Ferguson has explained that what happened when the Frenchman was in charge around a decade ago should put the Scottish Premiership side off moving for someone who has not previously managed in the country.

“I have my doubts because of Le Guen,” he said, as reported by the Record.

“At the time, because he was a top class coach, everybody was excited by it.

“He tried to change the culture of the club, the way they played.”

While Le Guen’s tenure was brief and largely disappointing, it must not be forgotten the success that Dick Advocaat enjoyed during his spell with the club.

The Dutchman was Rangers’ first ever foreign manager. And while he was given money to spend, he still had a tricky job on his hands, trying to lead the club through a period of transition following the end of Walter Smith’s trophy-laden spell.

But he went on to lead them to two league titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup, and left with a win rate that has only been bettered by two managers in the club’s history – one being Willie Thornton, who took caretaker charge for two games in 1969, and the other being Ally McCoist, who predominantly took charge of the club in the lower leagues – so perhaps it is extremely premature to write Caixinha off if he gets the job.
