Rangers still haven’t met Hearts’ valuation for goalscoring winger Jamie Walker. Why is anyone’s guess.
Most Rangers fans are at a loss to explain why the club has so far refused to meet Hearts’ very reasonable £1 million valuation for star winger Jamie Walker, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
Rangers are understood to have had three bids rejected for the 22-year-old, the final reaching just £600,000. This for a player who shone in the Scottish Premiership last season, netting a career best 12 league goals and 15 in all competitions.
Walker enjoyed the best season of his career in 2016/17
Therefore, he appears the perfect fit for a Rangers side who could do with a goal threat from wide areas. Dalcio and Daniel Candeias both arrived from Benfica to add quality on the wings but it’s fair to say neither is a prolific goalscorer.
And Derek Ferguson, who enjoyed long spells at both Rangers and Hearts in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, has pretty much said what most Rangers supporters are thinking with regards to an affordable deal which has developed into a long-running saga.
“Jamie is a quality player and Rangers definitely need more quality in that area. If they want him then they will have to pay Hearts the asking price,” 49-year-old Ferguson, who won three league titles with Rangers between 1983 and 1990, told the Daily Record.
“I don’t think Hearts are asking for too much – £1million is not a lot of money to pay for a top talent like Walker.”

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha stated at the start of the summer that he wanted players with experience of Scottish football but, so far, only Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack of his nine summer signings have previously set foot on a football pitch in the country.
Walker knows the league, he’s a reliable goalscorer and, best of all, he’s relatively cheap. Why Rangers have not done more to sign him is anyone’s guess.
