Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has spoken highly of Celtic striker Michael Johnston on Open Goal.

Ferguson, who started his professional club football career at Rangers and won the league title twice with the Ibrox outfit, believes that the 19-year-old striker is going to be top drawer.

“He is going to be top-drawer, by the way,” Ferguson said about Johnston on Open Goal.

Promising youngster

Johnston is only 19 years of age and has made a handful of appearances for the Celtic first team, but the teenager has shown his promise and quality whenever he has been thrown into action.

With Celtic having problems in attack, perhaps the teenager could play an important role in Brendan Rodgers’s team in the coming weeks and years.

The Scotland Under-21 international can only develop and progress by playing with senior players in the Celtic team and working under manager Brendan Rodgers.

While it would be too much to ask Johnston to start banging in the goals for Celtic rightaway, now is the chance of the 19-year-old striker to prove to manager Rodgers what he is capable of.
