Celtic have completed the two-year loan signing of Daniel Arzani from Manchester City.
Derek Ferguson has told Open Goal’s Right in the Coupon that Celtic’s newest signing Daniel Arzani reminds him of Hoops flop Charly Musonda, who cut short his two-year loan to return to Chelsea earlier this summer.
Arzani, 19, has joined Celtic on a two-year loan deal – similar to Musonda’s failed move – after Manchester City bought the Australia international from A-League side Melbourne City this summer.
Musonda failed to impress during his time north of the border, making only eight appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side before his loan deal was cut short only six months through his two-year move.
Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson believes Arzani draws comparisons with Chelsea man Musonda, claiming he is unsure that the teenager will make an immediate impact.
“It’s a player that needs to be developed,” Ferguson said about Arzani. “I saw glimpses of him at the World Cup, but he seems like a Charly Musonda type of player. When Charly came to Celtic we all thought he was going to be an absolute worldie.
“But he only played a couple of times, he was a bit-part player. Obviously a talented boy, but is he going to make that impact short term? I’m not so sure.”
Arzani is yet to feature for Celtic despite being Rodgers’ side playing three times since completing a move for the attacker. He could be involved for Thursday’s clash against FK Suduva in the Europa League, before Sunday’s Old Firm derby.
Celtic have only managed three signings this summer, bringing in Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal as well as re-signing Emilio Izaguirre and Arzani, with a centre-back still high on Rodgers’ wishlist.
The former Liverpool and Swansea City manager has three days to complete a signing, before the window slams shut at midnight on Friday.
