Rangers have been linked with a whole host of players ahead of next season, and Lewis Ferguson is one of them.
The Scottish Sun reported back in May that Steven Gerrard had identified Aberdeen midfielder Ferguson as a top target, and is determined to land him.
The rumour hasn’t really kicked on since then; Rangers haven’t had a move for Ferguson, and it’s unclear whether any bid will materialise.
Still, Ferguson has ties to Rangers; he started his career with the Gers, but was released back in 2013 and moved on to Hamilton Academical.
The 20-year-old has become a star with Aberdeen, and given that both father Derek Ferguson and uncle Barry Ferguson played for Rangers, many expect Lewis to do the same.
Now, Derek, has admitted to BBC’s Sportsound that his son is ‘at a brilliant club’ in Aberdeen, and believes Lewis wants to play in the Premier League down in England.
“Lewis is just someone that wants to better himself, he is at a brilliant club,” said Ferguson. “I know what he wants to achieve. He wants to achieve, at some point of his carer, if he can, go down to England and play in the top league, he’s got ambition,” he added.
A route to the Premier League may come with Brentford. The Daily Record reported in May that the Bees want to sign Ferguson, and and they could be playing top-flight football next season.
This poses a real threat to Rangers’ interest in Ferguson, and they may need to make a move soon before Brentford or anybody else can lure him to England.
