Rangers moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership table following their win against Hamilton on Sunday.

Derek Ferguson has claimed that Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo would have had a ‘telling off’ in the dressing following his recent comments.

Prior to Steven Gerrard’s side going top of the table, Ojo boldly stated that Rangers are the best team in Scotland, as quoted by The Express.

The Gers dressing room is full of experience heads from a Steven Davis to Sunday’s hat-trick hero Jermain Defoe.

Speaking to Sportsound (07/10/2019), Ferguson made it clear that Ojo would have been ‘slapped down’ for his comments, which he believes should have stayed in the dressing room.

“The experience is vital [in the dressing room],” Ferguson told Sportsound. “Those guys in the dressing room are going to be a big factor.

“We were just talking about Ojo getting ahead of himself, coming out and making statements. I think he would have been slapped down in the dressing room.

“I think one or two boys would have had a go at him, even the assistant manager, Gary McAllister because have that belief, it’s a great thing in the dressing room. But you don’t to go and shout your mouth off by saying, we are going to do this and that.”

Whilst Rangers may be feeling confident, and their win against Hamilton is perhaps proof of that, Gerrard would be keen for his players to do their talking on the field of play.

The more senior stars, such as Defoe and Davis, are leading from the front, with the striker hitting the back of the net on a regular basis and the Northern Irishman running the show in midfield.

It has been a strong opening eight matches for Rangers and when players return from the international break, Gerrard will be hoping his team can build on their momentum.
